To reach this locality, at 1738 meters above sea level, you have to take the Gavia road along the Frodolfo stream, surrounded by a dense forest of fir trees. At the end of the valley, with a spectacular view of Mount Tresero, the sunny plain where this ancient mountain rises opens up. From here the Forni valley branches off to the left, at the end of which is the famous glacier, the largest in Europe, and in which there are numerous shelters; on the right that of the Gavia, one of the classic passes of the tour of Italy.Another spectacular valley is the wild Val Zebrù which can only be accessed on foot or by jeep. Here we are in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, where eagles fly and ibex graze under the snow-capped peaks of Gran Zebrù (in German Königsspitze, mountain of the King) or of the Confinale.Santa Caterina is only 20 minutes from Bormio, famose ski destination, boasts of an enviable artistic and cultural heritage, ready to be rediscovered in the narrow streets of the historic centre, as well as nine thermal springs, dating back thousands of years, which feed the thermal baths at Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi. The chalet is entirely made of pine wood, it was an old mountain refuge built after the war, exactly in 1946.We renovated the house in 2018 to renovate the bathrooms and add a sauna and a turkish bath, otherwise the house has kept its original beauty.
