The island of Korcula is located in southern Dalmatia. This 46 km long island with 182 km of coastline and many bays is the sixth largest island in the Adriatic. The island has a mild Mediterranean climate with an average of over 2,700 hours of sunshine per year, making it the sunniest region in Croatia. So you can enjoy beautiful weather and warm sea almost all year round. The average summer temperature is 29 °C and the water temperature is 27 °C. Korcula is also one of the most densely wooded islands in the Adriatic.The town of Korcula is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean with 13th, 14th and 15th century city walls built around the old town centre. The town was founded as early as the 10th century (Constantine Porphyrogenet). The regularity of its building plan is unique in the Mediterranean. The famous seafarer and merchant Marco Polo was born in Korcula in 1254. There are numerous historical sights in the town (cathedral, town walls with towers, town hall, birthplace of Marco Polo and others).Vela Luka is the largest town on the island, 15 kilometres from the villa (Vela Rasoha Bay). The town has many shops, a shopping centre, many restaurants with a rich offer of Mediterranean specialities and local wines, which are world famous. Many cultural and entertaining events are organised in the summer. On the hill above Vela Luka lies Vela spilja - a famous archaeological site from the Stone Age, the finds of which can be seen in the local museum.
